Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets announced Tuesday, Feb. 2, that QB Mark Sanchez (knee) has decided to have surgery on his left knee, but there seems to be gray area on the length of the recovery period. The team would not give a specific timetable, saying only that Sanchez will be ready before the start of training camp. When it was revealed last week that Sanchez was mulling surgery, the feeling close to the team was that it would be a two-month recovery. Sanchez will have the surgery, believed to be an arthroscopic procedure, in approximately two weeks.

Rick Maese, of The Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis (concussion) definitely expects to be back with the team next season and be fully healthy, although he has not yet been cleared medically after suffering a concussion. He says he feels good and is excited about the Redskins' coaching changes.


Wide Receiver

WR | Wes Welker | New England Patriots | Injury News
ESPNBoston.com reports New England Patriots WR Wes Welker (knee) underwent surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left knee Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to published reports. According to the Boston Herald, team doctor Thomas Gill performed the surgery. The Boston Globe quoted a person with knowledge of the surgery as saying that Welker was "perfectly OK" following the surgery.

WR | Anthony Gonzalez | Indianapolis Colts | Injury News, Fantasy
Paul Kuharsky, of ESPN.com, reports Indianapolis Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee), who is on Injured Reserve, said he expects to be ready for the start of next season. "I'm feeling a lot better, the rehab has been a lot longer than I would have liked, but it's getting stronger every day, I'm getting better every day and I feel very, very confident about next year," Gonzalez said.

WR | Randy Moss | New England Patriots | Injury News, Fantasy
Updating a previous report, Albert Breer, of the Boston Globe, reports it is not known if New England Patriots WR Randy Moss (shoulder) will need surgery on his separated shoulder, according to a source.
