QB | Tarvaris Jackson | Minnesota Vikings | Injury News reports Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson's (knee) sprained left medial collateral ligament did not hinder him during practice Monday, Aug. 10. "It's doing a lot better. We got a day off yesterday so I was able to rest it," Jackson said.

QB | Brady Quinn | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
George M. Thomas, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports Cleveland Browns QBs Brady Quinn and Derek Anderson were both inconsistent during a scrimmage Sunday, Aug. 9. The quarterback battle is expected to last well into the preseason. "I thought both guys had their moments on the plus side and the side that we still need to work on," head coach Eric Mangini said. "They moved the team at different times with different levels of effectiveness." Quinn completed 11-of-19 passes for 121 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown pass and an interception. Anderson completed 12-of-21 passes for 107 yards and an interception, and he scored a touchdown on a 6-yard scramble.

QB | Alex D. Smith | San Francisco 49ers | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers QB Alex D. Smith reeled off 20 consecutive completions during practice Saturday, Aug. 8, and showed an accurate arm on short passes, which had been a problem for him in the past. Smith has performed well enough during training camp to put himself in serious contention for the starting job, but QB Shaun Hill has done nothing to lose the starting job, too. Hill showed improvement to his game Saturday as well, hitting some deeper passes during the workouts.

QB | Drew Brees | New Orleans Saints | Fantasy
Jeff Duncan, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said QB Drew Brees will be away from the team indefinitely because of his mother's death.

QB | Eli Manning | New York Giants | Fantasy
Ralph Vacchiano, of The New York Daily News, reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning has yet to sign his new $97.5 million contract extension. Both sides say there is nothing to worry about. General manager Jerry Reese said he is not concerned at all, noting there are a lot of details in this kind of contract. There also is not a timetable in place to have it completed, but Reese would like to see it done sooner than later.

QB | Mark Sanchez | New York Jets | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Dave Hutchinson, of The Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer told QB Mark Sanchez he will begin alternating reps with QB Kellen Clemens with the first-string offense. Sanchez worked with the starters first during practice Saturday, Aug. 8. Sanchez hit 10 of 19 passes, with two touchdowns and one interception. His tempo with the offense was crisp and he got the team in and out of the huddle quickly. Clemens will work with the starters first in the afternoon workout. During the morning, he hit four of 12 passes and was intercepted once. He almost was picked off two other times. Head coach Rex Ryan said he feels Sanchez has taken a step forward in the last few practices. "He's confident. He's moving around and he's not moving around like a deer in head lights. He's poised. He can make all of the throws. He's taking a step forward," Ryan said of the team's first-round pick.

QB | Sage Rosenfels | Minnesota Vikings | Injury News
Kevin Seifert, of, reports it is going to be difficult for Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson (knee), with a gimpy knee, to win the team's starting quarterback competition with QB Sage Rosenfels, even if Jackson entered camp as the favorite to win the job.

QB | Peyton Manning | Indianapolis Colts | Fantasy
Matt Dollinger, of, reports Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning said he likes working out with pads on at times during training camp. He said working with pads allows him to work on his timing, too, as the timing changes when he has DEs Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis coming at him full speed from the outside. He believes working against those two pass rushers gives him a better sense of how quickly he needs to get rid of the football while in the pocket.

QB | Michael Vick | Free Agent | Free Agency News

Raye said Gore has the eye of the tiger this year.

RB | Glen Coffee | San Francisco 49ers | Fantasy
John Crumpacker, of The San Francisco Chronicle, reports San Francisco 49ers rookie RB Glen Coffee, who is expected to give RB Frank Gore a breather from time to time this year, is having a stellar training camp. RB | LaDainian Tomlinson | San Diego Chargers | Fantasy
Jim Trotter, of, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson has been arguably the most impressive player during training camp. As reported, he is determined to prove he is not on the decline after rushing for a career-low 1,110 yards last year. The offensive line in front of him is healthier than a year ago, and the defense is stronger with the return of OLB Shawne Merriman. If the defense is able to step up, the offense will be able to go into their four-minute offense, churning out more yards on the ground with the running backs. "In four-minute, you can get almost 100 yards. You start wearing people down and then there are opportunities for big runs. You usually get anywhere from seven to 10 carries in four-minute, because you're thinking two first downs. So that's a big part of your run game," Tomlinson said.

RB | Shonn Greene | New York Jets | Injury News
Dave Hutchinson, of The Star-Ledger, reports New York Jets rookie RB Shonn Greene (ankle) continues to be limited by an ankle injury.

RB | DeShawn Wynn | Green Bay Packers | Depth Chart Tidbit
Tom Silverstein, of The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers backup RB DeShawn Wynn has stepped up his game. Running backs coach Edgar Bennett said Wynn is in the best shape he's seen him in and Wynn has matured. Bennett said Wynn needs to keep showing it day after day, but he is headed in the right direction. Wynn is a good blocker, which could allow him a chance to unseat Brandon Jackson as the third-down back. He also is able to pop off long runs and has good size. According to Silverstein, he may be able to challenge starting RB Ryan Grant for more playing time if he is able to keep it up, produce when the pads are on and stay healthy.

RB | Michael Bush | Oakland Raiders | Fantasy
Steve Corkran, of the Oakland Tribune, reports Oakland Raiders RB Michael Bush said he believes the team can have at least two 1,000-yard rushers this season in their zone blocking scheme and running behind solid fullbacks. Bush, RB Justin Fargas and RB Darren McFadden are all competing for the No. 1 job in training camp. "With the fullbacks that we have, we're going to rock things with Lorenzo (Neal) and Big O (Oren O'Neal)," Bush said. "The zone scheme is made to have at least two 1,000-yard backs. It's possible."

RB | Darren Sproles | San Diego Chargers | Fantasy
Tim Sullivan, of The San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson has been pushing head coach Norv Turner to add some plays that have both Tomlinson and backup RB Darren Sproles in the backfield at the same time. Tomlinson said Turner always says they are working on it, but they have yet to see it happen. Turner said the problem with such a formation is that it requires one of the two backs to work as a lead blocker at times. While Turner noted Tomlinson is an outstanding blocker, he doesn't see a scenario where he would design offensive plays that feature Tomlinson in that role. Turner went on to basically say blocking isn't something Sproles does. Tomlinson believes the addition would create mismatches the team could exploit.

RB | Maurice Jones-Drew | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Paul Kuharsky, of, reports Jacksonville Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew has been splitting out wide at receiver at times during practice. The Jaguars are using some plays to get the ball in Jones-Drew's hands in space, allowing him to help minimize the hits he takes and keep him fresher longer. "The total volume (of plays) maybe will go up a little bit for Maurice, but we've already had him very involved," head coach Jack Del Rio said. "I think the biggest thing that will happen is that we won't wait until the third series to get him in on first down. We were really bringing him in on third down and then slipping him in later in the game out of deference for Fred (Taylor), and Fred was terrific." Del Rio went on to say Jones-Drew is now going to start, and the team is going to supplement his carries with other running backs. Del Rio said to look for a slight increase to Jones-Drew's use, while adding: "Maurice is a playmaker, we need to get the ball in his hands."

FB | Greg Jones | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Paul Kuharsky, of, reports Jacksonville Jaguars FB Greg Jones, according to head coach Jack Del Rio, is going to be in the mix to carry the ball more in the upcoming season. WR | Eddie Royal | Denver Broncos | Fantasy
Mike Klis, of The Denver Post, reports since Denver Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels arrived from New England, many have taken the assumption Broncos WR Eddie Royal will play the role of Wes Welker, and WR Brandon Marshall will play the role of Randy Moss in the Denver system. The fit, according to Klis, is not that snug. While Royal has every bit of Welker's quickness, he also has more deep-ball speed than Marshall does. Royal says he cannot put a label on it, as he has seen a lot of different receivers run the routes he is going to be running for Denver. "I'm learning every receiver position right now," Royal said.

WR | Roddy White | Atlanta Falcons | Transaction, Fantasy
Adam Schefter, of ESPN, reports the Atlanta Falcons have agreed to terms on a six-year contract worth $50 million with WR Roddy White, according to a team source. The deal includes $18.6 million in guaranteed money. He will report to training camp Sunday, Aug. 9.

Burleson had surgery to repair a torn ACL less than a year ago, but he is moving and cutting very well. Burleson has not had any knee swelling, nor has he had to take any reps off. In the new Seattle system, which provides a little more balance between timing routes and deeper routes, Burleson could display his skill set even more.
