Quarterback

QB | Derek Anderson | Cleveland Browns | Injury News
James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson (calf) has recovered from the calf injury he suffered during offseason workouts and will be ready for the start of training camp, according to a source.

QB | Brett Favre | Free Agent | Free Agency News
ESPNews reports free-agent QB Brett Favre (Jets) will tell the Minnesota Vikings if he will play for them by July 30.

QB | Jay Cutler | Chicago Bears | Fantasy
Brad Biggs, of The Chicago Sun-Times, reports the longer the Chicago Bears wait to rework the contract of QB Jay Cutler, the more expensive it may be for them. The Bears have more than $17.5 million in salary cap room available at this time, and signing Cutler to a new deal now would allow them to apply a portion of it to this year's salary cap. Cutler is under contract through 2011, but has a $12 million roster bonus due in his final year of the deal. The Bears are already committed to him long term after giving up a lot to acquire him, so tacking on more years to the deal now makes sense. If they wait and other quarterbacks receive new deals, it could only push the price up. Furthermore, if they go into 2009 with his current deal in place and are successful, his asking price could go up, too.

QB | Matt Cassel | Kansas City Chiefs | Fantasy
Updating previous reports, John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Kansas City Chiefs have signed QB Matt Cassel to a six-year contract extension worth $63 million, according to a source. The deal includes $28 million in guaranteed money. Cassel will receive $40.5 million in the first three years of the contract.

QB | Tarvaris Jackson | Minnesota Vikings | Free Agency News
Mike Lombardi, of NFL Network, reports there is speculation that Minnesota Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson might request a trade if and when the team signs free-agent QB Brett Favre (Jets).

QB | Tony Romo | Dallas Cowboys | Fantasy
Tim MacMahon, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo and WR Roy Williams put in a lot of extra offseason work together. There were some encouraging signs of chemistry between the two during OTAs and minicamp, but there was also ample evidence that their relationship is a work in progress.

QB | Jason Campbell | Washington Redskins | Fantasy
Washington Redskins TE Chris Cooley said he believes QB Jason Campbell is ready to emerge as one of the NFL's top quarterbacks this season. "Jason Campbell is so close to being one of the best QB's in the league; he will have a great year," said Cooley, who filled in for SI.com's Peter King during his Monday Morning Quarterback column.

QB | Michael Vick | Free Agent | Free Agency News
Mike Berardino, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports when Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland was asked his response to former NFL head coach Dennis Green's recent prediction that free-agent QB Michael Vick (Falcons) would end up with the team, he just smiled and offered no comment. "No comment on that," Ireland said. "That's not my deal." Green credited the "creativity" of vice president Bill Parcells as his primary reason for predicting Vick would land with the team. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is already on record saying he believes Vick deserves a second chance to play in the NFL.

Running Back

RB | Marshawn Lynch | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports the Buffalo Bills coaching staff wants to effectively manage the carries of RB Marshawn Lynch this season due to his physical running style. The coaching staff plans to do so by making use of RBs Fred Jackson and Dominic Rhodes in 2009. To what degree the two will be used to spell Lynch remains to be seen. The Bills plan to run with more no huddle this season, so the added tempo will reduce time between snaps and wear running backs out quicker. Lynch, by the way, has bulked up to 230 pounds, but he said the extra mass has not caused him to lose a step this year.

RB | Travis Henry | Free Agent | Free Agency News
The Associated Press reports unrestricted free-agent RB Travis Henry (Broncos) has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for financing a drug trafficking operation.

RB | Ryan Grant | Green Bay Packers | Fantasy
Kevin Seifert, of ESPN.com, reports Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson said although the team likes the idea of having a 1-2 punch at the running back position with RBs Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson, the team envisions Grant being the main guy. "I think you need multiple guys, and we think we have some guys that can step in and play. We've put a lot of burden on Ryan the last couple of years, and I think in an ideal situation we would have some guys step in and take some of those reps, but we feel like Ryan will be our guy."

RB | Rashad Jennings | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars rookie RB Rashad Jennings will have all eyes on him when training camp rolls around. Should Jennings pan out as a seventh-round steal like some believe he is, the Jaguars could return to their workhorse running game identity from 2007.

RB | Ronnie Brown | Miami Dolphins | Fantasy
Omar Kelly, of the South Florida SunSentinel, reports Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown's contract has an opt out clause at the end of the 2009 season.

RB | Edgerrin James | Free Agent | Free Agency News
Edgar Thompson, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Drew Rosenhaus, agent for unrestricted free-agent RB Edgerrin James (Cardinals), said James will play this season but may wait to sign until training camps start and an injury forces a team to look to add another running back.

RB | Warrick Dunn | Free Agent | Free Agency News
Jarrett Bell, of USA Today, reports Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid would not rule out adding a veteran running back such as free-agent RB Warrick Dunn (Buccaneers), even though Reid is not concerned over RB Brian Westbrook's (ankle) cleanup ankle surgery.

Wide Receiver

WR | Sidney Rice | Minnesota Vikings | Injury News
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports former Minnesota Vikings WR Sidney Rice (knee) said he is around 90 percent healthy and is not thinking about his knee when running routes.

WR | Michael Crabtree | San Francisco 49ers | Injury News, Fantasy
Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers rookie WR Michael Crabtree (foot) has yet to run a route at full speed or catch a pass on the 49ers' practice field. His recovery is coming along well and he is expected, barring any late setback, to be on the practice field when the team begins training camp. Crabtree is going to have his work cut out for him when training camp begins. He needs to prove he is a disciplined route-runner after working in the spread offense in college. Maiocco doesn't expect Crabtree to post huge numbers in his first season, as Crabtree is far behind the team's other receivers in regards to learning how to compete and run routes at an NFL level.

WR | Matt Jones | Free Agent | Free Agency News
Michael C. Wright, of The Florida Times-Union, reports Dave Butz, agent for unrestricted free-agent WR Matt Jones (Jaguars), said he has spoken with several teams about Jones but nothing concrete is imminent.

WR | Terrell Owens | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills WR Terrell Owens said success of the team's offense this year all depends on the offensive line. "If they can protect our quarterback, we'll be successful," Owens said. He noted defenses are going to have a hard time picking out which threat on offense to focus on because they have a solid running game along with Owens and WR Lee Evans on each side.

WR | Lee Evans | Buffalo Bills | Fantasy
Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills WR Terrell Owens said success of the team's offense this year all depends on the offensive line. "If they can protect our quarterback, we'll be successful," Owens said. He noted defenses are going to have a hard time picking out which threat on offense to focus on because they have a solid running game along with Owens and WR Lee Evans on each side.

WR | Calvin Johnson | Detroit Lions | Fantasy
Terry Foster, of The Detroit News, reports the Detroit Lions don't have any worries when it comes to WR Calvin Johnson, other than his possibly spending too much time in the weight room. Head coach Jim Schwartz said Johnson doesn't create any headaches for him. "I don't have fires I have to put out for Calvin. That gives me more time to deal with more important things," Schwartz said. Johnson did admit he would have no problem asking for the football if he felt neglected in the offense. However, Johnson said he would keep it low key.

WR | Braylon Edwards | Cleveland Browns | Fantasy
Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns WR Braylon Edwards has vowed to bounce back in 2009 after having a poor year in 2008. He said his mind is right this spring and he figures to be the top big-play target amongst the team's wide receivers.

WR | Mike Furrey | Cleveland Browns | Depth Chart Tidbit
Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns WRs David Patten and Mike Furrey will be near the front of the line for wide receiver drills when training camp opens. However, it will be up to them to stay there by holding off the younger wide receivers behind them looking for playing time.

WR | Brian Robiskie | Cleveland Browns | Depth Chart Tidbit
Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns rookie WR Brian Robiskie was used in a variety of ways during the spring. His background and work ethic had many believing he was one of the most NFL-ready receivers in this year's NFL Draft. Rookie WR Mohamed Massaquoi showed the ability to make tough catches during minicamps and OTAs. Both receivers will be jockeying for position on the depth chart when training camp opens.

WR | Brandon Marshall | Denver Broncos | Injury News, Fantasy
Mike Florio, of ProFootballTalk.com, reports during an interview on ESPN, Denver Broncos WR Brandon Marshall (hip) said he will show up for training camp later this month. "Right now, I'm obligated. I'm under contract," Marshall said. He went on to say he'd be fined if he were to miss a day, and said he isn't stupid. "I will be there," Marshall said.

WR | Josh Cribbs | Cleveland Browns | Depth Chart Tidbit
Zac Jackson, of ClevelandBrowns.com, reports Cleveland Browns KR/PR Josh Cribbs can play just about anywhere for the Browns. There has even been some talk he may play on defense. Despite having just two catches last year, he will be in the mix because of his big-play potential and versatility. He could be called upon to play at wide receiver any time.

WR | Torry Holt | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Torry Holt will be counted on to be a dependable target for QB David Garrard. With a roster full of young, inexperienced wide receivers, Holt will need to be the primary option amongst the receivers until the other young wideouts are ready to pick up the slack.

WR | Plaxico Burress | Free Agent | Free Agency News
Arthur Staple, of Newsday, reports New York Jets FS Kerry Rhodes said during a radio interview that he would welcome unrestricted free-agent WR Plaxico Burress (Giants) if he were signed by the Jets.

WR | Marvin Harrison | Free Agent | Free Agency News
James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens could now show interest in free-agent WR Marvin Harrison (Colts), with WR Derrick Mason expected to retire. Harrison would serve the role of a possession receiver, similar to what Mason's role with the team was.

WR | Derrick Mason | Retired | Free Agency News

WR | Roy Williams | Dallas Cowboys | Fantasy
Tim MacMahon, of The Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo and WR Roy Williams put in a lot of extra offseason work together. There were some encouraging signs of chemistry between the two during OTAs and minicamp, but there was also ample evidence that their relationship is a work in progress.

Tight End

TE | Alex Smith | New England Patriots | Depth Chart Tidbit
Mike Reiss, of The Boston Globe, reports New England Patriots TEs Chris Baker and Alex Smith are locks to make the team in 2009. The Patriots signed Baker to a multi-year deal as a free agent during the offseason, and they traded a fifth-round draft pick in 2010 to acquire Smith from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Baker figures to work more as a blocker and run underneath routes, while Smith and TE David Thomas could move around at the position. Smith and Thomas, who are both in the final year of their contracts, could serve in a fullback-type role, too. Baker is under contract through 2013, but he is due a significant bonus after two years so it's essentially a deal through the 2010 season. TE Tyson DeVree, signed through 2010, is projected as the No. 5 tight end right now.

TE | Benjamin Watson | New England Patriots | Depth Chart Tidbit, Fantasy
Mike Reiss, of The Boston Globe, reports New England Patriots TE Benjamin Watson has the best speed of the team's tight ends. He has been lining up as the primary tight end in three-receiver sets, and he will likely to continue to fill that role entering 2009. Watson, by the way, is entering the final year of his contract with the Patriots.

TE | Zach X. Miller | Jacksonville Jaguars | Fantasy
Vic Ketchman, of Jaguars.com, reports Jacksonville Jaguars rookie TE Zach Miller may be featured as a pass-catcher this season. He looked sensational late in OTAs. Miller is making the switch to H-back after playing quarterback in college. He has flashed speed and pass-catching ability the Jaguars haven't had at that position.

Place Kicker

PK | Mason Crosby | Green Bay Packers | Fantasy
Rob Reischel, of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, reports Green Bay Packers PK Mason Crosby has set a goal of making at least 90 percent of his field goal attempts in 2009. Former PK Jan Stenerud in 1981 is the only player in the team's 90-year history to complete at least 90 percent of their field goal attempts in a season. Crosby has focused on strengthening his core and doing exercises that lead to more leg explosion.

Defensive Line

DL | Luis A. Castillo | San Diego Chargers | Injury News
Casey Pearce, of Chargers.com, reports San Diego Chargers DE Luis A. Castillo said he is feeling good physically after dealing with a back injury during a majority of the 2008 season. "I've been able to train that way and work that way," Castillo said. "That's a great feeling when you feel like you can push your body at that level and you feel like you're ready to go."

DL | Terrell Suggs | Baltimore Ravens | Transaction
John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Baltimore Ravens DL Terrell Suggs has agreed to a six-year, $63 million deal with the team, according to a source. Suggs will receive signing bonus and option bonus money that will total $33.1 million in 2009 and 2010, according to a source. Over the first two years of the contract, Suggs will make $40 million. Over the first three years, he will earn $43.4 million. Over the first four years, Suggs will make $48.3 million.

DL | Kevin Carter | Free Agent | Free Agency News
John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports free-agent DL Kevin Carter (Buccaneers) has received interest from the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers throughout the offseason.
