Pros: Well, Mendenhall should be healthy this year after fracturing his shoulder in Week 4. The Steelers burned a first-round pick on him in 2007; with 28-year-old starter Willie Parker a free agent after this season, Pittsburgh should give Mendenhall every chance to show he can take a full workload in 2010. Also, Parker hasn't been the epitome of good health in his career.

Cons: Parker might not have been healthy, but he is still the alpha dog in this situation. Head coach Mike Tomlin is going to make Mendenhall earn his role on the team. In addition, Parker still managed four 100-yard games last year, and he had at least 1,200 yards in each of the three previous seasons. Fifth-round draft pick Frank Summers might usurp some short-yardage work.

Fantasy tip: Mendenhall is often being called in the middle of the ninth round. He has definite upside ... but you might have to wait until later in the season for him to develop into a playable fantasy back. He has value as a No. 4 back and as a handcuff to Parker.
